Having children is a definite blessing, but the repercussions of pregnancy can be a little less enjoyable. Your body changes, sometimes drastically, leaving behind a sagging stomach, deflated breasts and a myriad of other issues that make your postpartum body look out of proportion and unattractive. You may find that your clothes do not fit well and there is no way you are going to be seen in a bathing suit. A mommy makeover can help you to eliminate these issues and give you back your pre-baby body.

What Exactly is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a combination of plastic surgery procedures that provide a full body contour. Most women choose a breast augmentation with a breast lift , a tummy tuck and liposuction of the abdomen. These procedures will reverse the post-pregnancy sagging and stretching. Some women may also want to sculpt the thighs, arms and hips, and they can use liposuction to achieve their desired result.

What Should I Expect?

These procedures can be done together to decrease recovery time. (Click on the links below to read more about each procedure)

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) – A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure that takes care of the excess skin and restores the weakened or separated muscles in the stomach. While the abdominoplasty cannot completely get rid of stretch marks, some may be eliminated during the surgery if they are in the right location. Tummy tucks are an outpatient procedure and recovery time usually takes around 4-6 weeks.

Liposuction – For stubborn fat around the abdomen and flanks, liposuction can easily reduce bulges and smooth out the contour of the body. Liposuction is done as an outpatient procedure and has a very minimal recovery period of about 1-2 weeks
Breast Augmentation with or without Mastopexy (Breast Lift ) – Breast implants add volume, while a breast lift gives your breasts a youthful, perky appearance. If your breasts are deflated, breast implants can be inserted into the breast providing much needed fullness. If sagging is also present, adding the additional lift will bring the nipple back to the correct position in the middle of the breast and give the breasts a round, firm shape. Both procedures are outpatient and recovery time is about 2-4 weeks.

Breast Reduction – If your breasts have enlarged and are causing you back and neck pain, a breast reduction may be exactly what you need. The excess fat is removed and the breast is reshaped to create the desired look for the patient. Breast reductions can be done as an outpatient procedure and recovery time is as short as 1-2 weeks.

Are There Risks Involved?

There are always risks involved with surgery. The same goes for a cosmetic surgery procedure. You may have an intolerance to anesthesia, infection of the wound site or bleeding. These types of issues can greatly be reduced by choosing a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and by discussing your medical history with your surgeon before your procedure.

What About Results?

Your results can last a lifetime. Maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine is essential for long-lasting results. Certain things may change your body, such as having another baby or gaining weight, so make sure you are finished having children and can keep your weight at a stable level before you have a mommy makeover. Your whole body will be looking slim and firm and you will be happy in and out of your clothes.
