5 Things You Need to Know About Breast Augmentation

Beach season is just around the corner! It’s time for sun, sand and bikinis! If you have been waiting for the perfect time to enhance your appearance, the time is now! Breast implants are a great way to look and feel confident while resting and relaxing in the sunshine! Breast augmentation is the most popular cosmetic procedure for women, with thousands getting the procedure each year. Without proper knowledge, it may be an extremely hard decision to make, but the more knowledge you have, the more comfortable you can be about choosing a breast augmentation.

If you are thinking about breast implants, here are a few things you should know:

Your Health Matters

Although a breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure, your current health and your past health issues will greatly impact the outcome of your procedure. During your procedure, you will have anesthesia, so if you have ever had problems with this before, you should tell your surgeon. Things like smoking, the use of alcohol and drugs or a history of anxiety and depression can also greatly impact your recovery and should be discussed with the surgeon during your consultation.

Natural Is Best

When breast implants were first introduced in plastic surgery, bigger was better. Celebrities like Dolly Parton and Pam Anderson established the norm with their extra-large breasts. Over time, this fad has diminished and the latest trend is all about being natural. Plastic surgeons (and their patients!) are focused on using plastic surgery to enhance features instead of drastically changing them. The goal is to make you look and feel younger and give your confidence a boost without being overly obvious.

Enlargement And Lift

Breast implants are used to give your breasts a boost in size and fullness. They can also give your breasts a slight lift, but for many women, a slight lift is not enough. After pregnancy, breastfeeding and weight loss, your breasts can often look like deflated balloons. The tissue becomes lax and the breast lays flat or sags and the nipple points downward toward the toes. When this happens, a breast augmentation will not be enough. To get your breasts back to their natural shape, you will also need to have a breast lift to tighten the muscles while adding the implant for more volume. Dr. Huddleston will be able to determine whether or not a breast lift will be necessary and can do both procedures at the same time.

Scarring

Surgical procedures leave behind scars. There is no getting around it. It is unfortunate, but with the right surgeon, it is easily manageable. Experienced surgeons are able to make a thin incision line along the underside of the breasts, leaving behind a faint scar in its place which is only noticeable upon close examination. At the beginning, it will be red or slightly purplish in color and it may be raised slightly. As your body begins to heal, you will begin to notice a difference in the appearance of the incision. It usually takes several months for the incision to heal completely and the scar to fade, but afterwards, it will be only slightly visible. The scar can easily be covered by a bra or bikini top so that it is not noticeable.

Results

We know that the end results are extremely important to you. During your consultation, you will be able to view before and after photos that will help you visualize how your breasts will look after your augmentation. It is vital that you discuss your desires and expectations with Dr. Huddleston. He will evaluate your body type to see what will work best for your unique figure. Immediately after your procedure, you will be quite swollen and your results may not look the exact way you had hoped. Over several weeks, the swelling will recede and your new breasts will begin to look and feel more natural.

A breast augmentation is more about feeling great about yourself than filling out your underclothes. Small breasts can cause serious self-confidence issues in women and implants help to boost self-esteem. Many moms want to have their old bodies back so they can feel normal and attractive again. Breast implants restore the femininity that these moms crave. If either of these examples sound like you or if you have just been dreaming about a breast augmentation for a long time, don’t wait any longer!
